[ARCHIVED] Cold Weather Update - 2/4/2023

Cold Alert

Good morning, this is Chief Bohannon at the Eastham Police Department. Last evening, Eastham experienced some significant power outages with approximately 600 residents without power at the peak of the outages.  We want to thank the hard-working crews at Eversource that battled some extremely difficult weather conditions to make repairs very quickly.  At this point this morning, there are only a few sporadic power outages left in Eastham.   The temperature at the Eastham Police Department currently stands at minus -1 degrees.  The windchill makes the feel like temperature as cold as 40 degrees below zero.  Please stay at home if possible, today to avoid these harsh conditions.  If you must go out, dress accordingly with many layers and cover all exposed skin.  Also, remember to keep your pets indoors and safe as well.  Due to the minimal power outages, we do not currently have plans to open a warming center.  Please keep in mind that the Eastham Public Library is open for normal business between the hours of 10am and 4pm and the Eastham Police Department is open 24hrs a day.  Either facility will welcome those who need a warm place, or other services.  If you feel at risk and are unable to provide your own transportation, please contact the Eastham Police Department at 508-255-0551.  As always, call 911 for emergencies.  If power outages should increase during the day today, we will reevaluate the need for a warming center.   Stay warm everyone and lets all look forward to the temperatures in the 40’s tomorrow!
